CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A 60-year-old American was killed when a speeding van struck him on MacArthur Highway in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City last Tuesday, police said Thursday.

Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista, Angeles City Police Office chief, identified the fatality as Robert Smart, 60, who succumbed to multiple bone fractures and head injuries.

Bautista said the driver of the Isuzu Wagon (NTI-234), identified in the police report as Eduardo M. Legaspi, 61, of Mabalacat, this province, surrendered to authorities immediately after the incident.

The incident report stated Smart was struck with such impact that his body was thrown across several meters before hitting the pavement with deadly force.

He was already dead when doctors at the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center attended to him, said Bautista.
