Gordon seeks stop to release of survey results; ‘Jamby’ backs move
Sen. Richard Gordon, presidential candidate of Bagumbayan party, Thursday asked the courts to stop any further release of survey results regarding who will win in the May 10 elections.
Gordon, who consistently lands in the bottom spots in the surveys and gets the support about one or two percent of the respondents in these surveys, said the surveys made by Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia have robbed the people of their free will to vote for whoever they want to win.
Gordon's lawyer, Chito Diaz, filed a case asking the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Thursday to restrain SWS and Pulse Asia from conducting and publishing the results of their surveys before the elections on May 10.
Gordon's petition also asked for P650,000 in damages which will be donated to the Philippine National Red Cross which he chairs.
Diaz said Gordon is asking the courts to stop the publication of survey results because the methodology used by survey firms is obsolete and do not reflect the true sentiments of the people.
He said they also want both SWS and Pulse Asia to be held accountable not only for ruining Gordon's presidential campaign but also for deceiving the people with survey results which he alleged to be purporting that the presidential elections is just between Noynoy Aquino and Manny Villar.
"We want SWS and Pulse Asia to be accountable for survey results which they profess to be gospel truth," Diaz said.
He said the methodology used in the surveys have already been discredited and rendered obsolete in other countries like the United States.
"The methodologies that they used, like the face-to-face interviews and quota sampling, are obsolete and are not credible because face-to-face interviews tend to suggest the answer and quota sampling does not really reflect the true demographics," Diaz said.
Independent presidential candidate Senator Ma. Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal shared Thursday the view of rival candidate Gordon against survey firms, saying “they are doing the Filipino people great disservice by disseminating biased survey results.”
She was reacting to the legal suit Gordon earlier filed in court supposedly to stop Pulse Asia and SWS from making public the results of their surveys which, he claimed, are “false and misleading.”
“Do you know anyone who has taken part in any of the opinion surveys conducted by “False Asia” and the “Surveys of the Wealthy for the Stupid?” Madrigal asked, referring to Pulse Asia and SWS.(with a report by Gabriel Mabutas)
