A former bodyguard of Liberal Party (LP) presidential bet Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who reportedly protected him during an ambush staged by military rebels at the height of the August 1987 failed coup attempt, has gone into hiding because of threats against him and his family by a still unknown group.

Joseph Galleta, a former security personnel of Noynoy belonging to the so-called “Yellow Army,” has secured himself and his family based on reports that armed groups have been tracing him after he spilled the beans on the true story behind the ambush incident and Aquino’s alleged indifference to his plight.

The mystery on Galleta’s disappearance surfaced after supporters of Noynoy have initiated the printing of some one million copies of comics, depicting the alleged heroism of Noynoy in defending his mother, then President Corazon Aquino, during the critical days of coup attempts against her government.

A neighbor of Galleta in Tarlac, who requested not to be identified, revealed that he became “a subject of a manhunt” after he allegedly started talking negative against Aquino particularly his sufferings after the ambush where three of his companions died while fighting with the rebel soldiers.

“Nung kumandidato si Noynoy, nagsimula ng magsalita si Joseph laban kay Noynoy sa mga umano’y kasinungalingan ni Noynoy na pinabayaan sya matapos nyang mailigtas ang buhay nito (When Noynoy announced his candidacy, Joseph started telling us about the real story on the ambush and how he abandoned him after he saved him),” Galleta’s neighbor claimed in an interview.
