Probe on airport mess not grandstanding - Sen. Poe

Poe initially made the statement in a radio interview Wednesday, following the Senate Committee on Public Services' hearing on the runway mishap involving a Xiamen Air flight MF8667, and the chaos at the NAIA after that. She led the Senate inquiry as chairwoman of the committee. Some, however, took the initiative as a form of political grandstanding. Poe, particularly, was accused by netizens of taking advantage of the hearing to seek favorable attention ahead of the midterm elections next year. In an apparent move to address the criticisms, that particular part of the radio interview was posted in the senator's social media account. In the interview, Poe had clarified that she was not playing know-it-all in conducting the inquiry. "Kaya nga tinatanong natin kung ano ba talaga ang nararapat (That's why we asked what had to be asked)," she explained. In conducting the hearing, she said she aims to start the discourse on improving airport administration. Poe had told reporters after the hearing that senators think that airport officials had "failed" in handling the runway accident -- because the recovery operations took 36 hours -- as well as in properly coordinating with airline companies and addressing the needs of the thousands of passengers stranded in the terminal.
