LP holds campaign finale in ‘Chiz,’ Salceda hometowns
Where could be the best place to hold one’s campaign finale?
For Liberal Party standard- bearer Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, a straight sortie at the hometowns of two of his most-talked about supporters will aptly cap his 90-day campaign trail Monday.
Aquino will visit Monday Sorsogon and Albay in Bicol Region, the home provinces of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Gov. Joey Salceda.
Although there has been a reported rift between Escudero and Aquino’s running mate, Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, the latter is expected to accompany Aquino and the LP senatorial slate in their scheduled sortie in Sorsogon.
Escudero earlier aired endorsement of Aquino’s candidacy but picked Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay for vice president over Roxas.
While Sorsogon province has a record of 375,308 total registered voters, Aquino’s next stop, Albay, boasts of more than half a million of voting population. The entire Bicol Region accounts for more than 2.8 million voters.
In Albay, Aquino and his slate will be accompanied by Salceda, who is running unopposed for reelection as governor. A former economic adviser of the President, Salceda is one of the recent and most controversial defectors to LP from the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD party.
Meanwhile, there is no official word yet if former Senator Sergio “Serge” Osmeña III will attend LP’s last provincial sortie or the slate's upcoming meeting de avance, the schedule of which was earlier set but recently recalled by party officials.
Although Osmeña has been involved in planning campaign strategies for Aquino’s campaign, he chose to work on his own candidacy. He was never seen in any of the LP sorties since former Senator Ralph Recto entered the slate.
LP senatorial slate campaign manager and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan did not respond when reached to confirm Osmeña’s attendance in the meeting de avance.
