Thirty-four persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan are set for release late April or early May this year, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
The release will be done after completion of a six-month Pre-Release Psychological Intervention Program (PRPIP) which started last Nov. 8, BuCor said.
It said the PRPIP is aimed at helping PDLs "process their fears, apprehensions, and expectations relative to their release and provide them with an alternative lens in dealing with adverse circumstances they might encounter in the community.”
“BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. and IPPF Superintendent C/CInsp. Gary A. Garcia ensure that all soon-to-be-released PDL are prepared psychologically, mentally and emotionally for their reintegration to the mainstream society,” it also said.
BuCor records show that from Jan. 1 to Jan. 30 this year, a total of 632 inmates had been released from various prison facilities of the bureau.
Since June 2022, BuCor had released a total of 11,347 PDLs.
