Soliman set to assume DSWD post
Former secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Corazon “Dinky’’ Soliman is expected to assume her former post as soon as leading presidential candidate Benigno Simeon “Noynoy’’ Aquino III is finally proclaimed winner in the May 10 national elections.
But Soliman said that she has no idea if the other members of the Hyatt 10, who resigned from the Arroyo administration at the height of the “Hello Garci” scandal, will be given posts in the new administration.
In a press conference at the Liberal Party headquarters in Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City, Soliman admitted that members of the Hyatt 10 have been helping Aquino in the campaign.
“It’s premature to say what role members of the Hyatt 10 will play because there have been no talks to that effect yet. Besides, the decision of who Senator Aquino will appoint is up to him. Our focus right now is to make sure that the votes for all LP candidates are counted,” said Soliman, who heads the LP’s Bantay Balota group.
Apart from Soliman, another Hyatt 10 member, former Education Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad has played a key role in Aquino’s bid. He was the LP’s campaign manager.
A reliable source from Aquino’s campaign team also disclosed that Arroyo’s Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos Deles, National Anti-Poverty Commission Sec. Imelda Nicolas, Department of Trade and Industry Sec. Juan Santos, and Department of Finance Sec. Cesar Purisima have “secretly’’ offered support to Aquino.
