The Vietnamese government extended Wednesday its invitation to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to visit Ho Chi Minh City in June for the 19th World Economic Forum on East Asia, Malacañang said.

Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza said Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Vu Tu, also the deputy director of the HCM City Department of Foreign Affairs, sent his government’s invitation to Mrs. Arroyo to come over in Ho Chi Minh City for the economic forum from June 6 to 7.

The Vietnamese top diplomat in the country met with Mendoza on Wednesday to hand over Vietnam’s letter of invitation to the outgoing President.

“The Ambassador of Vietnam delivered the invitation for President Arroyo to attend the World Economic Summit in Vietnam in June,” he said. However, Mendoza cannot confirm if the  President will attend the summit.

“This is still in the process. We are not sure (if she will come),” Mendoza said. (Charissa M. Luci)
