Watching IT
A new dawn or damnation
I am truly glad that the elections are done and over with. There is just too much we need to do, too much catching up that we should focus our attention to.
While the political circus (Is there any other kind of politics?) might be a welcome distraction for a people brought down to their knees by economic hardships and an extreme lack of hope, the real world and real-world concerns await. Once the campaign sorties are over and done, the last campaign jingle sung, and the last vote counted, we would be back to our communal and constant nightmare of empty stomachs and half-empty brains.
So, I hope you and I had a good laugh from the inane and cheesy antics of our honorable politicians displayed the past several weeks. Inevitably tomorrow, we would find out the joke’s on us.
Keyboard PC
Well, if a monitor can do it, why not a keyboard. Become a computer, that is. We have seen several models of all-in-one computers that basically are LCD monitors with built-in CPUs.
Electronics vendor Asus, for its part, recently unveiled the EeeKeyboard PC, a fully functional computer built inside the body of a keyboard – one that is described by the Taiwanese company as “svelte and stylish.”
This, however, is not an ordinary keyboard. It comes with Ultra-wideband Wireless Display connectivity, which enables it to stream high-definition (720p) videos to compatible display systems (HDTVs, monitors, or projectors) as far as 5 meters.
The EeeKeyboard PC includes a shock-proof solid state drive, ensuring that stored data is safe and well protected while on the go. It also comes equipped with a built-in microphone and high-end stereo speakers. A 5-inch multitouch panel, which can be configured to function as a touchpad, or to display quick-launch keys and shortcuts, completes the keyboard computer’s intuitive user interface.
iPad Goes International
Apple said its popular iPad tablet computer will go on sale outside the U.S. on May 28. Earlier, the company had to delay the iPad’s international debut due to stronger-than-expected consumer demand in the American market. This helped the iPad become one of the most popular products in global gray markets, especially in Asia.
The iPad will be launched in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. Apple fans in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Singapore will get their hands on the iPad in July.
Apple says that iPad owners have downloaded more than 12 million applications from the company’s online store.
This makes the iPad another hard target for Apple’s competitors.
That’s all for the meantime, folks. Join me again next time as we keep on watching IT.
