Lifting their seventh franchise trophy, the Cool Smashers have pretty much stayed an intact team coached by Sherwin Meneses and haven’t seen newcomers until the middle blocker-libero duo decided to jump over fence.
“Happy na may nadagdag na ulit sa Creamline, medyo matagal tagal na ring walang bago [player] sa team namin so excited kami na matutunan nila ‘yung sistema ng Creamline at maging happy sila sa loob ng court. Abangan niyo lang next month ang ilalaro nila sa team,” said Galanza.
The sister teams vied for the title in the past conference which saw Choco Mucho make its first-ever finals appearance since its inception in 2019.
Though the Cool Smashers continued to be cut above the rest of their rivals in as many years, the championship game drew a new PVL crowd record, a true win for the sport.
While De Leon and Lazaro familiarize themselves in the champion rotation, both players are also set to reunite with former UAAP teammates Valdez and Ella De Jesus, though sans star setter Jia De Guzman, who has decided to take his act to the Japan V. League last year.
The PVL kicks off with another All-Filipino series this February as 12 teams jockey for a spot to the top, with Creamline still poised to take lead in the standings after a conference sweep campaign last December.
“We’re still working on the system and the team. So, ‘yun din ‘yung lagi naming sinasabi na we’re just always ready to give our best. And we’re always ready to play our hearts out for the people, for the fans at sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa team,” said three-time PVL MVP Carlos.
