5 PH properties cited in 9th ASEAN Green Hotel Awards

Sustainable tourism goes beyond having recycling bins

Five Philippine properties bagged the Green Hotel Standard accolade at the 2024 ASEAN Tourism Awards in Vientiane, Laos, held from Jan. 22 to 27. 

Club Paradise Palawan, Bohol Beach Club, Seda Nuvali, Pearl Farm Beach Resort, and The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay emerged as winners, helping prove that responsible tourism is still within reach. 

The Green Hotel Standard is awarded to hotels practicing sustainable tourism through eco-friendly principles, human resources development, resource efficiency, and local community involvement. 

Club Paradise Palawan 

The Coron-based resort is known to transform waste into wonder, with its Taranuman Farm being made from wood scraps and plastic through the Ecobrick project.

Apart from bagging the award, the tourist spot is also the sole property in the country cited in the Green Destination's 2023 list of top 100 sustainability stories.

Bohol Beach Club 

The property incorporates water-efficient fixtures to improve conservation and employs key card or motion-controlled electricity to minimize its carbon footprint. 

The beach resort also won the ASEAN Green Award in 2018. 

Seda Nuvali 

Ayala Land’s lifestyle property is now a two-time Green Hotel awardee, with its first recognition in 2020.

Meanwhile, the modern attraction received a LEED Silver Certification granted by the US Green Building Council in 2015.

Pearl Farm Beach Resort 

Through its WeCare campaign, the Davao-based resort established itself as a "marine sanctuary,” helping improve waste segregation and eliminate single-use plastic for responsible tourism. 

It was also cited in the 7th ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Awards. 

The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay 

Dedicated to championing sustainability, the establishment uses energy-efficient LED bulbs and 100 percent renewable electricity to help combat greenhouse gases. 

Most food provided at the property is organic and locally sourced, thereby reducing energy use.
