Boxing star and congressman-elect Manny Pacquiao was taken to the Cardinal Santos Hospital Sunday morning after complaining of severe stomach pain, something that those close to the fighter said was a recurrence of his acid reflux condition.

The past few days, Pacquiao has been very busy attending to personal matters and shooting commercials which could have aggravated his condition.

Pacquiao had spent the night at the hospital on Wilson Street, San Juan City, in 2007 for acid reflux, which is a common and abnormal condition when acid in the stomach rises up into the esophagus.

“It’s his acid reflux condition that brought him to the hospital,” said the fighter’s lawyer Franklin Gacal, who visited his boss Sunday.

Still, Gacal said there were other tests that were done in an effort to rule out any other ailments.

Business manager Eric Pineda said Pacquiao “is doing good.”

Gacal said Pacquiao will likely check out of the hospital on Monday morning.

Despite his new role as Sarangani congressman, Pacquiao is still going to box and a proposal is for him to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on November 13 either in Las Vegas or Dallas.

If doctors discharge him, the 31-year-old Pacquiao will leave for New York on June 2 so he can receive his third Fighter of the Year trophy from Boxing Writers Association of America.
