BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter in Sitio Cansimba, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Sunday, August 6.
The Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) said troops clashed with eight NPA rebels in Sitio Leong, Barangay Imelda, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Saturday, August 5.
The Army said they prevented the plan of the NPA to recover the support of Barangay Imelda rebels through the community’s cooperation.
After the 10-minute firefight, a .45 caliber pistol with magazines and serviceable ammunition, two backpacks, and other personal belongings were recovered.
Troops pursued three fleeing NPA rebels and engaged them in Barangay Quintin Remo, killing one communist guerilla and recovery of a .38 caliber revolver, a grenade, and other personal belongings.
The Army has yet to release the name of the slain NPA rebel.
