It was an arduous battle for the presidency but Sen. Richard Gordon said he has come to terms with his defeat and is ready to support the administration of likely president Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

However, Gordon expressed sadness over the outcome of the 2010 election campaign which he said bordered more on advertising and preferential surveys that resulted to a conditioning of the minds of the voters.

Gordon in particular slammed polling firms Pulse Asia and Social Weather Station (SWS) for conducting misleading surveys.

“I still think we should now allow too much advertising because that is really conditioning. And the worst conditioning of all is surveys,” Gordon said in a weekly press conference at the Senate.

“It’s very, very sad that we want to have elections that is reasonably ran well but when you allow candidates to overspend, come on. You know that vote-buying is still rampant especially in the province,” Gordon said.

A former business executive in a private firm, Gordon said he believes in surveys but when used regularly it could render the public unable to think wisely.

“Are the people getting wiser because of advertising? Are the people able to discern and really reflect on their vote if they are being told that your chosen candidate cannot win even if he means well? If there is an appeal that I would want to make and I will continue with the fight (is the) suit I filed against the SWS and Pulse Asia. Are we that weak not to see that there are interlocking directors within Pulse Asia and SWS?” Gordon said.

But Gordon made it clear he has accepted that Aquino won the mandate of the people and is prepared to rally behind the new president provided he “make the right thing."
