The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has urged Royal Jessan Petromin Resources Inc. to deploy additional divers to speed-up the recovery efforts on all human remains that may still be possibly recovered inside the wreck of MV Princess of the Stars.

The massive retrieval effort by the PCG started last month after MV Princess of the Stars was towed to shallow waters from its original site at the shores of Sitio Cabitangan, Sibuyan, Romblon.

The MV Princess of the Stars originally sank approximately 1.8 kilometers from the shoreline with a depth of almost 200 feet.

The PCG reports that the 23,000 gross ton vessel -- the biggest salvage operations recorded in Philippine history -- has been refloated by the salvor making it possible to be towed to only 350 meters from the shoreline at a depth of about 80 feet.

The wreck is now within safer depth for the divers to complete the scouring of the wreck and retrieve all human remains that may still be possibly recovered.

PCG Commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo cautioned the divers to be prudent during the operation so as not to expose their personal safety especially that the salvage operations has been affected by unexpected changes in weather and sea conditions with the start of the typhoon season.

Tamayo said the Task Force MV Princess of the Stars has called for a meeting to study and assess the closure of salvage and retrieval operations and human remains identification.
