Mayor Jojo Binay pulled the biggest surprise in the elections.

From No. 3 in the surveys, he surged to frontal position in the vice presidential race and beat Mar Roxas soundly.

Using the Makati City government’s sister-city program as a vehicle, Binay established ties with many city and provincial governments over the years.

He capitalized on these ties in his bid for the vice presidency and won handily with a margin of more than 700,000 votes over his rival Mar.
