Aquino sisters distribute school supplies with Ai Ai and Kris Aquino’s son Josh
Some 400 kids from Payatas, Quezon received bags, school supplies and slippers when President Aquino’s sisters, Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, visited the area on June 14, as reported on GMA’s “24 Oras.”
On camera, one parent expressed her gratitude by saying, “Nagpapasalamat po kami dahil sa pagbibigay po sa amin ng mga school supplies dahil hindi po lahat kami nakakabli ng ganyan.”
Both Ballsy and Pinky had been on hand during the distribution because Kris could not make it due to a previously scheduled taping. The news report pointed out that this particular project had been Kris’ brainchild, and indeed, the youngest Aquino had already done such a distribution activity a few days before, in their hometown of Tarlac.
Kris reportedly distributed school supplies to some 2,000 elementary school pupils—an activity that kicked off the fulfillment of a promise she made while campaigning for her brother for the Presidential elections.
With schools about to open the next day, June 15, Pinky told “24 Oras” that, “Kris was able to solicit a lot of school supplies so tamang-tama sa pasukan ng school so nira-rush namin...”
Ballsy, meanwhile, assured everyone that this is just the preview of the sisters’ continuing efforts to reach out to those who need help. “Kasi even before Kris told us about this, kanya-kanya na kami ng iniisip, ‘Ano kayang magagawa natin?’ Something na hindi basta dole out, pero something that will be long lasting.”
As such, the sisters wanted to assure everyone that not only would they continue such efforts, they would likewise try to visit as many places as possible, and not just the areas where their brother won the most number of votes. In fact, the report announced that the Aquino sisters plan to go to Pasig and Negros this week, and then to Zamboanga the next.
Meanwhile, during her prior visit to Tarlac, Kris had promised to return in October for a medical mission, and hold a gift-giving activity there in December. Indeed, it seems the Aquino clan would truly be busy beginning this second half of the year—and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s been time well spent.
Part of the activity in Payatas had been a song number from Kris Aquino’s eldest son, Josh, which delighted the kids and their parents. Meanwhile, family friend, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas, supported the sisters during the distribution. She told GMA that she had no second thoughts about joining their efforts, and was always willing to help. However, she refuted reports of being offered a position in the Aquino government.
When asked about what position she was eyeing, Ai Ai minced no words and said, “First Lady. Sabi ko, ‘yun ang gusto ko.”
She was joking, of course.
