If there’s any song that is making waves in the airlanes or even in coffee shops conversations, it is “Jejemon.”

What is “Jejemon?” If you are not a jejemon yet, you will never understand it, but you may enjoy it – the song “Jejemon” which was written and recorded by Blanktape!

Sung by Blanktape himself, the song is now digitally released, which means that you can download it into your cellphone.

“Jeje” is the humorous transformation of the “he he” when one laughs, and “mon” is derived from the word “monster.” Hence, you have “jejemon.”

Blanktape said he now has a follow-up song to his “Jejemon.” He has called it “Ako’y Jejemon.”

An undergraduate in chemical engineering, 29-year-old Blanktape is one of the finest rappers in the country today.

With some friends, he formed his own band, and for a while, they were regular performers in GMA-7 shows. “It came to a point when we were no longer effective as a band, so we dissolved the band and I went solo as a rapper,” he said.

Blanktape has also become a controversial rapper as he pursued his singing career. He has been singing “double-meaning songs,” the latest being “Ang Aking Saging.”

“It’s a tribute to the banana vendors,” he tempered the double-meaning. “They deserve to be sung about,” he added. And don’t miss his “Ang Pechay.”

Quinn on Q 11?

The international hit show “Glee” has left an indelible mark among Filipino viewers, being one of the most popular television programs across consumer segments. And just like their counterparts in other countries, local fans have banded together in full force, further increasing the countless number of self-professed “Gleeks.”

Of late, an interesting phenomenon has swept through Pinoy Gleeks: A good number of them now make it a point to watch the news. While this may be attributed to a renewed habit of keeping abreast with current events, one particular newscaster has been the recipient of all this inadvertent attention. Fans have noticed a striking resemblance between GMA-7 and QTV anchor Mariz Umali and actress Dianna Agron, who portrays the role of Quinn in “Glee.”

“Mariz Umali is our local version of Quinn,” enthused Eina Villanueva, a member of Fantastic Glee Fanatics, an online community with over 17,000 current sign-ups.

For her part, Umali feels highly complimented to be compared to one of today’s hottest young stars. “That’s very flattering, I hope I don’t disappoint the ‘Glee’ fans,” the slightly-blushing news anchored replied.

“Glee” is aired every Wednesday at 4 p.m. over ETC channel, with replays at 8 p.m. on Sundays. “Balitanghali Weekend” airs every Saturday and Sunday on QTV Channel 11 at 12 p.m.
