The Bureau of Immigration (BI) continued to reap praises on its efforts in curbing human trafficking in the Philippines after a non-government organization cited the agency's vigilance in preventing suspected victims from leaving the country, it was learned Tuesday.

Maria Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, president and executive director of the Visayan Forum, said the bureau, under Commissioner Marcelino Libanan, has perfected the profiling of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) disguised as “tourist workers.” Oebanda cited the immigration procedures in Zamboanga port where passengers’ documents are now being processed before they board a ship bound for Sabah, Malaysia.

The Visayan forum is an NGO that helped victims of human trafficking. It has been the government’s partner in combating trafficking in persons.
