After ostentatiously announcing his inaugural presentation via Twitter, singer Christian Bautista not only prompted reactions from fans and non-fans alike but also from one of his singing idols, American star Josh Groban.

Bautista took to the popular networking site after organizers urged him to sing an impromptu number during the momentous occasion, which marked the official oath-taking of the republic’s 15th president, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and vice president Jejomar “Jojo” Binay.

Apparently, the celebrations ran a bit earlier than expected and so the organizers had to hastily put in order filler performances from the number of celebrities in attendance —Bautista among them.

Though he initially balked at the idea, Bautista ultimately obliged with a rendition of “You Raise Me Up” sung a cappella.

After his performance Bautista tweeted:

“Proud to sing @joshgroban's "You Raise Me Up" for the @ Aquino-Binay President and vice president inauguration here in manila!”

“Thank You God for being so good 2me &my country. We all will humble ourselves, seek your face and pray. Heal our land. God bless d Philippines!”

Moments later, Groban tweeted back sounding very much thankful for having one of his more popular numbers played at the inaugurals.

“Thanks very much! I'm sure this is a huge day for the great people of your country. Enjoy!”

Bautista responded with a curt, “Thank you for your message! This is a great day for my country! And Your song is now part of Philippine History:)”

Though Bautista's message was well-intentioned, he credited the wrong singer. "You Raise Me Up" was co-written, recorded and first released by Secret Garden in 2002, a year prior to Groban's remake.

Bautista acknowledged that Groban was among his idols, mentioning that he used to perform the latter’s songs in many of his performances including the “Star in a Million” contest from a few years back.

It was his appearance in “Star in A Million” that paved for Bautista's entry in show business.

In related news, last June 26, Bautista’s name landed on the top 10 of Twitter’s top trending topics—a list that reflects popular topics occupying most people’s attention on the networking site at any one time worldwide.

The report was mentioned by writer Ricky Lo in his column, published July 1, relating how Bautista managed the feat.

According to Lo, Bautista caught the attention of netizens after sitting as guest judge in “Indonesia Mencari Bakat,” that country’s version of the popular “Got Talent” franchise.

It was 30 minutes into the show that Bautista’s name first appeared at the Twitter trending topics. When the show ended, Bautista’s name was already at the number 1 spot remaining there for two hours.
