So much on LeBron’s mind

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AFP) — The Cavaliers made their pitch to keep superstar LeBron James in Cleveland on Saturday, now the NBA's two-time reigning Most Valuable Player just has to make up his mind.

James, the brightest star in a star-filled crop of NBA free agents, has been courted for three days by teams from across the country seeking to lure him from Cleveland, where has spent all seven of his NBA seasons.

The New Jersey Nets brought a billionaire owner and a hip-hop star to woo him, Miami sent Pat Riley and a Chicago Bulls group including owner Jerry Reinsdorf, general manager Gar Forman, vice president of basketball operations John Paxson and new coach Tom Thibodeau spent more than  three hours making their case on Saturday.

The Cavaliers brought brand new coach Byron Scott, who joined with owner Dan Gilbert in trying to persuade Ohio-native James that there's no place like home.

NBA salary rules allow the Cavs to offer more money to keep James than competing teams can give him to move, but what they really had to convince him of was that he will eventually be able to claim an NBA title if he stays.

Cleveland reached the playoffs each of the last five seasons. They reached the finals in 2007, but have fallen short of a title. They lost to Boston in the second round this past season.

Cleveland fans, fearing the departure of their team's mainstay, turned out Saturday to show their support for the Cavs and their affection for their home-grown star.

It was thought the 25-year-old would reveal his decision sometime next week.
James isn't the only marquee free agent with a decision to make.

Miami star Dwyane Wade discussed his options with the Heat as well as the Bulls, the Knicks and the Nets.

'”I've got a decision to make, and I've got a weekend to think about it,” Wade told Chicago's NBC-Channel 5 outside a downtown hotel.

“Hopefully, at the beginning of next week sometime, I'll make that decision.”
