OIC eyes New York for tripartite meet
Seeking to speed up the full implementation of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement (FPA) signed by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has proposed convening in New York the 4th Session of the Tripartite Meeting to continue the FPA's review.
OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanuglo made this proposal last month to hold the GRP, MNLF and OIC peace talks at the sidelines of the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations on Sept. 14 to 30, the Manila Bulletin learned from an unnamed source from one of the OIC member states.
It was learned that the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, sent out communications to the OIC-PCSP members regarding the proposed United States venue.
On the other hand, the same source said Indonesia prefers having the talks at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah in November to give way to the parties' legal panels to resolve pending issues and finalize their proposed bills for the amendment of the Organic Act (Republic No. 9054) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
