Like in the Philippine Sports Commission, there also seems to be a mad scramble for the position of chairman in the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), a source from the boxing community bared on Sunday.

The boxing man revealed that former senator and ex-basketball star Freddie Webb, broadcast journalist and ex-basketball czar Chino Trinidad, and the inactive boxing promoter and matchmaker Lope Sarreal have been mentioned as possible replacements for current chairman Aurelio Lacson.

Lacson, a businessman from Bacolod, was named GAB chairman only last March, replacing former swimming icon Eric Buhain, who is now the Executive Director of the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation.

“These names have so far surfaced from talks within the boxing community,” said the source.

The GAB is the government agency tasked to regulate professional sports like basketball, boxing, mixed martial arts and cockfighting.

The GAB is also composed of two commissioners and they are Angel Bautista of Cavite and Ramon Guanzon of Bacolod, who like Lacson, have also tendered their courtesy resignation letters on June 30.
