Businessmen build, donate 10 new school buildings in Baguio City
BAGUIO CITY — The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FFCCI) and the Baguio Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BFFCCI) here have donated over 10 new school buildings in different parts of this city, it was learned Friday.
Dennis Sy, BFFCCI president, told the Manila Bulletin Friday that the 10 new school buildings have been turned over to the Department of Education (DepEd) and the city government.
“This is part of our commitment to help improve the quality of education for the present and future generations of Filipinos,” said Dy.
He said the FFCCI and BFFCCI recognize the problem of a growing student population in the public school system which, in turn, compounds the problem of a lack in classrooms for a sound study environment.
Dy said a two-classroom building they built at the price of P400,000 was a big help to the Lucban Elementary School, which is one of the most populated schools in the city.
For his part, Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan hailed the Filipino-Chinese community for prioritizing the provision of school buildings and classrooms in the different parts of the country, citing that such invaluable support showcases the active involvement of the private sector in nation building.
Dy said such programs have also drawn Filipino-Chinese businessmen closer as they become partners in supporting the city government and the DepEd address the problems in the public education system.
As early as now, the BFFCCI and the FFCCI are already eyeing to give support to public schools in other parts of the Cordillera region by constructing more school buildings where they are most needed.
