Taguig says 95.97% of new target population now vaccinated with first dose

The Taguig City government announced Sunday that it has vaccinated nearly 96 percent of its eligible population with the first dose.

In an announcement, Taguig said as of Aug. 21, 586,430 individuals have received the first dose, or 95.97 percent of its new target eligible population of 611,086, which is based on the Department of Health’s projected population for the city for 2021.

The Taguig City government changed its target population to 611,086 from the original 680,000, or lower by 68,914 individuals.

Based on the DOH’s Population Projections by Region, Province, City/Municipality and Barangay from 2020-2025 released last year, Taguig has an estimated total population of 872,983 for 2021.

Up until the end of July, TRACE Taguig used 680,000 as the city’s target population but stopped publishing it beginning August.

In addition, 280,838 individuals are now fully vaccinated in Taguig, or 45.95 percent of the new target population.

Meanwhile, the Taguig City government is following the move of other local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to vaccinate non-residents.

The city government is targeting to open the vaccination to residents of neighboring cities on Aug. 25.

“Kapag natapos po tayo ng November, bubuksan natin lahat ng mega hubs natin sa buong NCR at Pilipinas para makatulong tayo sa buong bayan (Once we finish by November, we will open all our mega hubs to the entire NCR and the Philippines so we can help the country),” said Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, according to an interview.

Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III of Pateros, the smallest LGU in Metro Manila, earlier announced that the municipal government will start vaccinating people from other LGUs in the National Capital Region after it finished vaccinating 80 percent, or 56,000, of its target population with the first dose.

As of Aug. 21, Taguig has 1,387 active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases including 218 newly reported cases for the day out of 33,635 confirmed cases, 31,951 recoveries and 297 deaths.
