Janice Hung, deadly pop star in the making

Because she has been practicing the Chinese martial art Wushu since she was seven years old and has the vocal prowess of a professional singer, could it be that Janice Hung has the makings of a “deadly” pop star?
No, she couldn’t be deadly, because according to Janice, who has won a number of Wushu competitions here and abroad, she would rather walk away than hurt a person. But of course, we shouldn’t belittle her capabilities in manhandling an aggressor of any kind. More than being physically ready to defend herself, Wushu has also trained her to focus on what’s “important in life.”
“With Wushu, we can use anything as a weapon. But I don’t want to hurt people… Wushu is a very challenging sport and it combines everything from agility, fitness, flexibility and it’s a very mental sport. That’s why I love it,” she described.
And after excelling in Wushu, she’d like to succeed next in a singing career which she has always wanted to embark into even when she was only seven years old.
Now the country that has supported Janice in international competitions in the past will finally get the chance to see the other side of Janice – as a performer and singer. She will make her singing debut on Saturday, July 17 at “Fontana Rocks” at the Fontana Hot Spring and Leisure Park, Clark, Pampanga.
A project of Fontana with the cooperation of Summa-hana Arts and Language Foundation, “Fontana Rocks” is headlined by Ely Buendia with Christian Bautista and La Diva.
In the said show, Janice has prepared five songs that may include a Chinese song for which she is becoming known for in the entertainment circle. Upbeat and danceable songs may also be part of her repertoire since one of her musical influences is global star Beyoncé.
Aside from her popularity in Wushu, Janice Hung is also a successful advertising model. She has endorsed several international and local brands like Chevron, Accel, Cream Silk Shampoo, McDonald’s and Nescafé.
Her good looks and martial arts expertise has also earned her a number of acting jobs in such series as “Rounin,” “Kung Fu Kids” and the recently ended soap opera “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” where she played one of the members of the RX Gang along with Miriam Quiambao and Gabby de la Merced.
