Echiverri, Rodriguez win League of Cities elections
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri and San Fernando City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez won the League of Cities of the Philippines election of officers and general assembly held in Pasay City on Saturday.
Echiverri and Rodriguez were both members of the so-called “Reform group” of local chief executives in the League of Cities. They ran unopposed.
Echiverri won the position of Chairman and Rodriguez, President. The League of Cities is an association of city mayors with 121 members nationwide.
“Ang panalo naming ito sa League of Cities ay patunay na handa na ang ating bansa para sa tunay na reporma at pagbabago, sa pamumuno ng ating pangulo na si Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III,” declared Echvierri. (Winning the League elections meant that our members want real reforms under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III).
Former League of Cities president, Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. backed the winning of Echiverri and Rodriguez.
Echiverri thanked the former League president for throwing his full support to the reformist mayors.
“Taos-puso akong nagpapasalamat kay Mayor Abalos sa kanyang pagsuporta sa aming grupo na walang ibang hangad kundi i-angat ang kabuhayan ng bawat Pilipino. Kaming lahat sa League of Cities ay nagkakaisa sa pagkamit nito,” Echiverri said. (I’m so grateful for all the support given me by my colleagues.)
