Watching IT
Sometimes, the uber-marketer stumbles
It is heartening, exhilarating actually, to see the land's most powerful man observing the traffic rules. Although in a way this aptly describes how low our expectations of our government officials have gone, nothing and nobody can take anything from what the president is doing. Leading by example is always a refreshing and most effective way of promoting the rule of law.
Distrust and cynicism are like barnacles clinging on boats' bottoms and behinds. They are hard to remove, even overcome. For a people who have been deprived of their rights and abused by leaders, elected or pretenders to the throne, feeling and showing contempt for the government come naturally as breathing.
Yet, deep inside, each of the most cynical and untrusting citizens of this blighted land has always been hoping and dreaming for a better tomorrow, if not for themselves, at least for their children's children.
iPhone 4's Antenna
Consumer welfare group Consumer Reports said it will not recommend the iPhone 4 smart phone from Apple. Earlier, the organization conducted tests on the iPhone 4 and several other phones. Test results show that the iPhone suffers from reception-related problems caused by a faulty antenna design.
For its part, Apple said earlier that it is normal that phones lose signal strength when held in certain ways. The company also said that the iPhone 4's faulty formula for displaying signal bars on the phone's screen makes it appear to be suffering from a larger signal drop.
Consumer Reports said, however, that only the iPhone 4 seemed to have the signal-related problem.
Let us wait for Steve Jobs' reaction.
Bigger, Smarter?
Several Android phones, their vendors perhaps aiming to outdo the iPhone's 3.5-inch touchscreen, now come with 4.3-inch displays. Do not be surprised if soon, us consumers get lay our eyes on smart phones with even bigger displays.
For now, the HTC Evo 4G and the Motorola Droid X own the bragging rights to having the meanest, biggest screens. And bigger screens usually mean more comfort and eye-friendliness for the average consumer. With such big displays, consumers who like me no longer have 20/20 vision no longer need to squint to see the minutest of texts.
Compared with the iPhone 4, however, these phones with “huge” screens come up short in terms of pixel count. This means less clear and more pixilated images and videos.
3D Digicams
Sony unveiled two Cyber-shot digital cameras, the DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5, that are capable of capturing 3D images using a single lens system. The cameras offer a 3D Sweep Panorama feature that lets users take panorama-mode photos via a “one press-and-sweep motion.” The high-speed burst of images is sewn up using a special software tool. The resulting images can be viewed in 2D or 3D on compatible 3D TV systems. Now, you know which cameras to bring should you get to visit the Avatar world.
That’s all for the meantime, folks. Join me again next time as we keep on watching IT.
