In the midst of a very fun meet-up with entertainment scribes for her upcoming concert “Megadrama” Aug. 7 at the Araneta Coliseum, Sharon Cuneta could not help but be emotional – and at times both combative and embattled – when the topic jumped to issues hounding her daughter KC Concepcion and husband Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

Sharon delivered two strong responses on separate issues: “Tantanan n’yo ang anak ko” and “I’m behind my husband 150 percent.” How things arrived to this from a very leisurely chat with the press last Thursday at Discovery Suites, Ortigas started when Sharon confronted the nasty Twitter post Piolo Pascual’s tweener son said about KC.

Reports have it that the youngster called KC a bi**h, to which Sharon replied, “I think Piolo should say something about this kung anak ni Piolo ang nag-comment about KC. Kasi kung may fault ang anak ko, hindi ko s’ya ide-defend. How old is Piolo’s son? 12 or 13? Ang bata pa. Hindi mo masisi kasi kahit kami nung naghiwalay kami ni Gabby, of course, gusto ng anak namin maging kami ulit but from what I understand, matagal na silang hiwalay but that’s their issue.”

The bottomline, Sharon stressed, is that: “I do not totally blame the kid pero sana tantanan nila ang anak ko. My daughter is a very decent girl.”

She added during the “Megadrama” event, “Depende rin sa palaki yun because I remember telling KC the first time she was to visit Gabby who was then married to Jenny (Syquia, Gabby’s ex-wife). I told KC to respect Jenny because she wasn’t the one who hurt us. She’s a decent woman and she had nothing to do with our separation, a different girl caused that. When she goes to her Papa’s house, that’s also Jenny’s home, so she must treat her with respect. When KC got back, I got a letter from Jenny telling me how happy she was to have finally met KC and that my daughter was very sweet.”

What Sharon found unfair to KC in the situation is that, “KC and Piolo, hindi naman sila [item]. Matagal na silang nagkikita, pero hindi sila at hindi official. I recognize that Piolo is a positive influence kay KC but she’s always been decent.”

The Megastar thought it was only right for Piolo to come in KC’s defense. “Wish ko lang magsalita si Piolo [to defend KC]. Alam ko ayaw niya pumagitna pero magbigay naman siya ng statement.”

Failed by Tito Sotto’s decision

Another real-life Mega-drama, Sharon said, is happening in the Senate where the battle for Senate Presidency is beginning to test relationships and the Megastar, whose husband Kiko Pangilinan was handpicked by President Noynoy Aquino to head the upper house, is caught in the crossfire.

Apparently, Sharon is deeply hurt by her uncle, Sen. Tito Sotto’s expressed withdrawal of support from Pangilinan. She opened up to Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the media: “A lot of drama is ongoing sa Senate. Merong mga nakakasakit ng damdamin ko. Tanggap ko naman ang decision nila though I understand his (Tito Sotto’s) reasons of not supporting Kiko may mga naririnig kasi ako sa radio or TV may mga pasaring.”

She then heaved an emotional sigh before stating, “Ang asawa ko ang handpicked ni President Noy and I just want everybody to know that I am behind my husband 150 percent. Ayokong may magsabi na baka kaya hindi suportado ni Tatay or Uncle Tito (who is married to Sharon’s aunt Helen Gamboa) si Kiko ay dahil ayaw kong maging Senate President niya. That’s not the case. Again, I support my husband 150 percent.”

To her husband’s critics, she said, “Oo hindi siya experienced kasi hindi siya experienced sa pagnanakaw. Lahat ng meron kami pinaghirapan namin. Mayaman na ako.”

Sharon shared that it’s just painful when family ties are disentangled by politics. “Ang sakit na pamilya pa namin ang nakakasakit. Although I know he has his reasons why he did not want to support Kiko pero yun nga eh, we campaigned for him pa. I wish it was a more friendly setup, hindi yung family ang involved.”

On a lighter note, Sharon will have another OPM tribute concert backed up by her label Sony Music in “Megadrama” where she will perform original Filipino hits, past and present with a stellar lineup of guests including Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kuh Ledesma, Ai Ai delas Alas, Sarah Geronimo and Ogie Alcasid.

One of the highlights in the coming show is when Sharon performs the hits of Ryan Cayabyab, George Canseco and Willy Cruz, whom she felt gave her “the best songs” to sing. Sharon will also do more upbeat numbers originally by Gary Valenciano and ballads like those written by Nyoy Volante. “It’s hard to pinpoint which songs are the hardest to do because lahat sila mahirap pero para maiba naman ang show, I’ll be doing songs by other artists.”

The concert, produced by Artist House and directed by Rowell Santiago, will not be all drama, Sharon said. “Masaya ang show! Ang drama yung story lang ng songs written within the show. Depende yun [mood of the show] sa kung gaano ako kaloka-loka sa gabi ng concert but I’m sure it’ll be a fun evening because gusto ko masaya ang crowd sa show ko. I’m going to make sure na masaya silang lahat.”
