‘Singson’ nabbed in HK; but is he...?
Will the real Ronald V. Singson please stand up?
The son of controversial politician Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson has been implicated in a mix-up of sorts after a reported namesake was detained in Hong Kong for drug trafficking.
Singson was quick to deny that the Ronald Versoza Singson arrested in the former British Colony was his son.
In an interview with another newspaper, the Governor said that his son, a re-elected congressman and businessman, is not in Hong Kong but in Mongolia.
JM Rodriguez, director of Channel V, a cable music station that congressman Singson owns, said the same, adding that the latter planned to be in Mongolia for a month.
This was, however, seemingly refuted by actor Jomari Yllana, Singson’s business partner.
Yllana confirmed that Singson penciled in a Hong Kong trip after the “Usher in Manila” event, the most recent concert they co-produced under their company Fearless.
“I was supposed to fly to Hong Kong with him but I could not leave because I had a scheduled [movie] shoot,” the actor was quoted as saying.
Hong Kong court records showed that the Ronald Singson arrested on July 11 at the Customs Arrival Hall of Chek Lap Kok International Airport, with 26.1 grams of cocaine and two tablets of diazepam, has a different middle name.
The middle name of Representative Singson is Verzosa, while the one caught has “Versoza” for a middle name.
The congressman’s rumored girlfriend, actress Lovi Poe, was mum on the subject.
“I’m sure it’s not true. I won’t comment. I’d rather [we] wait for his official statement,” the singer actress said in a statement via text message.
