Philippine Queen of Soul Jaya not only confirmed that Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez gave expensive gifts to the cast and crew of GMA-7’s kantaserye, “Diva,” but she has a theory on why Regine did it: “It’s her motherly instincts.”

“Mapagbigay naman talaga si Regine, 'yun nga lang, to the highest level talaga ang ginawa niya dito sa mga nakasama niya sa ‘Diva.’ Kasi nga naging sobrang close kami, kumbaga, para tuloy siyang nanay na nagpamudmod sa mga anak,” Jaya said in an interview during the kantaserye’s Thanksgiving Party on July 23.

She revealed that Regine gave away dozens of iTouch and iPod not only to her co-stars but even to people behind the scenes. Jaya received an Apple-Macbook Pro while the “Diva” executive producer reportedly got a Louis Vuitton bag.

“Nagulat ako kasi Sunday niya binigay yung Macbook. Nung na-tiyempuhan niya ako, nagmumuni-muni pa ako ng kung ano-ano, ni wala pang make-up, tapos—tsug!—ayan na ang Macbook sa harap ko,” she said.

Recall that just two weeks ago, the Songbird was also rumored to have given her boyfriend, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid two Black BMW Series 7. Neither of them confirmed nor denied this.

Jaya said that Regine is so financially blessed that she no longer looks at price tags when she goes shopping.

“Minsan nga, nagugulat na lang siya na medyo napamahal pala yung nadampot niyang item pero hindi niya na maibalik kasi bayad na,” the Queen of Soul said.

Regine can also be oblivious of her stature sometimes. She and her sister Cacai, along with Jaya, once went shopping in Makati where they just walked from one department store to another, unaware that a mob was already trailing them.

“Paglingon namin punong-puno na ng tao! Parang comedy scene na andyan na ang lahat, nakatingin. Nagbulungan kami, ‘Pano yan naka-duster pa tayo at walang make-up?’ Um-escape na lang kami ng pasimple,” Jaya recounted.

The singer behind the hits “Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig,” “Dahil Ba Sa Kanya” and “Laging Naro'n Ka” said that Asia’s Songbird picks her gifts carefully to suit its recipients.

“Pinagiisipin niya talaga. Minsan, kumukuha siya ng idea sa everyday conversations niyo tapos magugulat ka na lang na natandaan pala niya yon,” she said.

Asked what people give Regine in return, Jaya quipped: “Kung anik-anik lang.”

“She has everything na kasi. At saka madali lang talaga siyang pasayahin. Bigyan mo nga lang ng bopis o fish crackers si Regine, masaya na yan. Pag tanungin mo siya, ‘Pano to? Ano naman ang ireregalo ko sayo?’ Tatanggi yan. Pag nagpilit ka, ang isasagot niya sa ‘yo, ‘Greeting card.’”

Jaya and Regine co-star on “Diva” along with Glaiza de Castro, Mark Anthony Fernandez, TJ Trinidad, Rufa Mae Quinto, Gloria Diaz, Randy Santiago, Mark Herras, Ynna Asistio, and Chariz Solomon. GMA Network’s first-ever kantaserye makes its final curtain call after five months with a grand conclusion from July 26 to July 30.
