BPI approves energy loan to Red Corp.
Restored Energy Development Corp. (Red Corp.), a biomass energy provider, has secured a loan from the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) under the bank's sustainable energy finance program.
Red Corp. uses rice hulls to produce steam for a bottling plant of Pepsi-Cola Products Phil. Inc. and the main facilities of Kalinisan Steam Laundry, Inc., guaranteeing them a clean and affordable energy source for their operations.
Pepsi uses steam for its bottle washing operations, syrup cooking, and sanitation while Kalinisan Laundry for its garment washing and finishing.
“Biomass resources” refers to non-fossilized, biodegradable organic materials originating from animals and micro-organisms, including agricultural products, by products and residues such as sugarcane and coconut, rice hulls, rice straws, coconut husks and shells, wood chips, residues, forest residues, corn cobs, corn, and bagasse, that can be used as fuel through various conversion technologies.
