Manila Water has received its latest certification from the International Organization for Standardization, widely known as ISO and a certification for occupational health and safety.

The ISO 14001:2004 and the OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation were awarded to Manila Water for five of its facilities – the Balara Pumping Station, South Septage Treatment Plant, Balara Treatment Plant No. 2, UP Septage Treatment Plant and Laboratory Services.

The certifications given by Certification International are significant as they confirm Manila Water’s status as a company with a sound environmental, health and safety management system (EHSMS).

ISO 14001:2004 provides a specific standard for a management system that incorporates a set of interrelated elements designed to minimize an organization’s impact on the environment while OHSAS 18001:2007 sets a specific standard for occupational health and safety management systems designed to eliminate or minimize the risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to occupational health and safety risks associated with the business’ activities.

Early this year, Manila Water’s ISO 17025:2005 accreditation for laboratory facilities was renewed by the ISO through the Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine Accreditation Office. The ISO means that the laboratory meets both the technical competence and management system requirements that are necessary for it to consistently deliver technically valid test results and calibrations.
