Ejercito cites need to amend party-list law

San Juan City Representative JV Ejercito stressed the need to amend the party list law after the court's approval of former Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo to represent the Sekyu Party List.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) dismissed the case filed against Arroyo’s Ang Galing Pinoy party-list for representing tricycle drivers and security guards.

Ejercito said in a statement that a significant number of family members and cronies of the Arroyos made their way to Congress by circumventing the party list system.

“How can those people say they are genuine representatives of the marginalized sector when they have not even experienced the life of an ordinary Juan dela Cruz?”

He added that the real intention of having representatives from the marginalized members is not realized, and that billionaires like the Arroyos can become representatives of the “marginalized sector.”

“I pity those genuine marginalized groups who cannot get themselves into Congress just because they do not have the resources to launch a genuine campaign,” Ejercito said. (Carlo S. Suerte Felipe)
