SSC-Excelroof eyes quarters slot
Games Friday (The Arena, San Juan)
2 p.m. - Perpetual Help vs St. Benilde
4 p.m. - National University vs FEU
6 p.m. - Adamson vs SSC-Excelroof
San Sebastian-Excelroof, enjoying its finest start in the league, shoots for the first quarterfinals berth when it battles Adamson this Friday in the second conference of the 7th Shakey's V-League at The Arena.
A win in their 6 p.m. match will not only give the SSC spikers a berth in the next round, but would also stretch their unbeaten streak to five games.
The SSC lasses are coming off a breezy 27-25, 25-21, 25-18, win over University of Perpetual Help last Sunday, a feat that is expected to give them extra motivation to sweep the single-round elims in the 8-team tournament.
The SSC-Adamson match will be a duel between the league’s leading spiking team against the top blocking squad with the Lady Falcons, with 40 kill-blocks after four games, hoping to neutralize the power-hitting SSC belles with their solid net defense.
National University, meanwhile, goes for its third win in four starts as it takes on Far Eastern University in the 4 p.m. encounter.
Still smarting from a stinging loss to SSC, Perpetual Help (1-3) and College of St. Benilde (0-4), on the other hand, tangle in the 2 p.m. opener in a duel of struggling teams in the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa and Excelroof.
The San Sebastian spikers have been flaunting an aura of invincibility lately as they have not dropped a single set in their past four games – thanks largely to their hardworking Thai import Jaroensri Bualee.
A former Most Valuable Player winner, Bualee, 26, is leading the league in scoring with 24 points per game, highlighted by a conference-high 27 points she scored against Perpertual.
