Source: Josh Howard to get 1-year deal with Wizards
WASHINGTON (AP) – A person familiar with the deal says Josh Howard has agreed to a one-year contract to return to the Washington Wizards.
The person told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Howard is set to come back after playing only four games with the team last season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been signed.
Howard was acquired in a seven-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks on February 13, but he tore a ligament in his left knee on February 22. The Wizards declined to pick up their option on his contract at the end of the season but left open the possibility of re-signing him.
Howard had surgery in mid-March, with an expected recovery time of six to eight months. He has averaged 15.3 points over seven NBA seasons.
Raptors acquire Australian Andersen from Rockets
TORONTO (Reuters) – The Toronto Raptors continued to rework their roster acquiring the rights to Australian center David Andersen from the Houston Rockets in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2015, the teams said Wednesday.
Taken with the 37th overall selection by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2002 draft, Andersen spent most of his career in Europe before joining the Rockets last season, averaging 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in his rookie NBA campaign.
"David is a skilled big that gives us some insurance at the backup center position," Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a statement. "He will also bring a veteran presence and savvy to a relatively young team."
Andersen claimed three Euroleague titles with Virtus Bolonga (2001) and CSKA Moscow (2006 and 2008) and was a member of the 2004 and 2008 Australian Olympic teams.
