CIAC prioritizes 7 infra projects for Clark aviation complex

Towards its goal of becoming a premiere multi-use airport and destination for businesses, tourists, and locals, the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) has mapped out seven flagship projects to be implemented within the Clark aviation complex.

In a press conference for the Singapore Airshow on Feb. 2, CIAC President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arrey Perez told reporters that the upcoming projects are being aggressively pushed to accelerate the developments to the airport and its surrounding area.

These projects include the creation of a National Food Hub, which leverages Clark's strategic location in Central Luzon and its proximity to the agriculture industries in the area to support food security; and the entertainment and events hub including the construction of a convention center to boost Clark's appeal as an attractive destination for tourists and investors.

A current key project highlighted by Perez was the CRK Direct Access Link that aims to enable ease of travel for the public to the airport. Alongside this is the expansion of the complex's utility corridors to accommodate more workers and locators.

Perez also mentioned CIAC's intentions to make Clark a top logistics hub in Asia for firms, increasing the airports’ capacity for cargo operations.

It is also planning to speed up its urban renewal and conservation efforts to improve connectivity in the area, and make the complex sustainable for the environment and the people. This include creating bike and pedestrian-friendly spaces with facilities powered by renewable energy sources.

Lastly, CIAC will also build its own modern headquarters to fully support the developments in the complex.

At present, 23 airlines are operating at CRK. In 2023, the airport almost hit its target of two million passengers, but fell short by around 600 to 800. Despite this, Perez said this was still a good achievement for the company.

For this year, CIAC is aiming to double its passenger count to four million. The terminal building has the capacity of 8.2 million passengers per annum, but the target was set lower in order to manage operational expenses, Perez explained.

CRK currently flies to 11 international and domestic fights. However, in 2024, the company is eyeing to expand to 13 new destinations. For domestic these include Bacolod, Bohol, Davao, Iloilo, General Santos, Cagayan De Oro, and Puerto Princesa. For international, these are Taipei, Taiwan; Bangkok, Thailand; Narita, Japan; Hong Kong and Macao; and Cheongju, South Korea.
