LPA has a 'high chance' of developing into a tropical depression --- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Nov. 12, said the Low Pressure Area (LPA) being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has a "high chance" of developing into a tropical depression in the next 36 hours or on Nov. 13.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA which was seen at 1,605 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao may slowly move westward and may gradually strengthen in the next two days due to warm sea surface temperature.

Estareja added that the LPA which may enter PAR on Wednesday, Nov. 15 will be named "Kabayan" if it develops into a tropical cyclone.

Meanwhile, PAGASA advised the public in Aurora and Quezon to be vigilant from possible flash floods or landslides as the shear line---the area where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterlies converge---still brings cloudy skies with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms in the affected areas.

Cloudy skies with light rains will be felt in Batanes and Babuyan Islands while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be expected in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the rest of Cagayan Valley both due to northeast monsoon or "amihan."

In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will also be experienced due to localized thunderstorms.

The public was also warned of possible flash floods and landslides in the affected areas during severe thunderstorms.
