Don’t accept gifts, tax collectors told
Tax collectors of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) were advised on Friday not to accept gifts and invitations for coffee, or lunch dates from taxpayers to cut down the incidence of corruption in the service.
The Association Chief Revenue Officers of the Philippines (Acrophil) came out with the policy guideline in answer to President Nonoy Aquino"s moral crusade of "Kung Walang Corrupt, ay Walang Mahirap."
BIR insiders said the request is feasible and doable if taxmen subscribe to the call of the President for unity, walking on the road of righteousness for the good of the Filipino people.
The two-page memo also requested revenue fieldmen to release in one-hour time ordinary documents sought by taxpayers including registration, verification of tax payments and Tax Identification Number. (Jun Ramirez)
