Boyz II Men off to greater heights with ‘The Love Tour’
The R&B genre seems to be emerging as the flavor of the season in the concert scene featuring foreign acts at the rate an impressive number of imported R&B artists have been performing in the country during the past few months.
Next in line among these popular acts booked to visit Manila is Boyz II Men, a certified musical legend acclaimed as the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time, which is scheduled to return for a limited engagement in August.
The R&B sensation will enthrall local fans with its marvelous array of love songs and romantic ballads when it headlines “Boyz II Men: The Love Tour” concert on Aug. 13 at the Araneta Coliseum. To be mounted by Ovation Productions, the one-night-only musical event is the Manila leg of the group’s ongoing world tour in support of its latest album, “Love.”
Aside from selections from “Love,” its latest Motown remakes and multimillion-selling hits of the 1990s are also included in Boyz II Men’s collection of greatest hits of two generations that will be featured during the two-and-a-half hour gig.
Boyz II Men started as a quintet in 1988 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that eventually ended up as a three-man vocal group recognized individually as distinctive lead singers and known for their trademark flawless harmonies.In 1991, after signing up with Motown Records, Boyz II Men released its debut album, “Cooleyhighharmony,” which became a classic of the Nineties’ “new jack swing” or – to use its own description – “hip-hop doo-wop.”
“Cooleyhighharmony” made the Top Five and hung on the Billboard Top 200 for an astonishing 133 weeks, with sales of over nine million copies in the US alone and earning for Boyz II Men its first Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
“Boyz II Men: The Love Tour!” is presented by Ovation Productions in cooperation with ETC Entertainment Channel, 2nd Avenue, Hallmark Channel, Imarflex Home Appliances, Edsa Shangri-la Manila, The Philippine Star, BusinessWorld, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, and RJ 100.3 FM.

One Way performs at SM Mall of Asia
K-Pop trio One Way is in town to do a series of mall shows, the last of which will be held today, Aug. 1, 5 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. A relatively new group, One Way is currently causing a lot of buzz in the Korean music scene. They made their first appearance only a few months ago on Music Core and now they are being interviewed on popular radio stations in Korea.
One Way is composed of Chance (Michael Kim, leader/vocals), Peter (Peter Hyun, vocals), and Young Sky (Choo Joon Young, rapper) and they are managed by YJ Media, also known as YJ Entertainment.
One Way wrote, composed and arranged all of the music on their debut album “One Way Street” including the hip-hop anthem “One Way,” “U Drag,” “Magic” and “Wrong Number.”
One Way was introduced to Filipino TV audiences via Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 0f 2010 when the Korean male housemates posed themselves as a K-Pop group called R2J.
