Survey: Automated polls ‘satisfactory’
Three out of four Filipinos were “satisfied" with the conduct of the first automated polls last May, according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
Seventy-five percent of the 1,200 adults surveyed in Metro Manila and other parts of the country have voted that the recent automated elections was "satisfactory" in terms of the voter registration system, information, vote-counting and peace and order.
But the SWS pegged voters’ dissatisfaction at 15 percent because of "election irregularities" such as vote-buying, cheating in the counting of votes, flying voters, and harassment of voters.
“We are grateful for the three out of four responses. It vindicates our efforts, faith, and hope. There is hope for this country,” said Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento when sought for comment about SWS survey.
Lawyer Ferdinand Rafanan, head of the Comelec law department, said “It’s a big improvement but it should be higher.”
