Tropical depression ‘Domeng’ sighted
A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted on Tuesday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has developed into a tropical depression named “Domeng.”
At 4 p.m. Tuesday, “Domeng” was estimated at 500 kilometers eastnortheast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center.
PAGASA’s forecast show that “Domeng” will move west-northwest at a speed of 7 kilometers per hour.
Another LPA was estimated at 950 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes.
Due to the prevailing weather systems, PAGASA said Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northwest will prevail over the Northern and Eastern sections of Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Light to moderate winds blowing from the northwest to west will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and from the northwest to southwest over Mindanao with slight to moderate seas.
“Domeng” is the fourth tropical cyclone that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.
PAGASA expects that three to four tropical cyclones will affect the country this month.
It also declared that the country will experience above normal rainfall conditions due to the La Niña weather phenomenon.
