The Manila Sharks beat the Cebu Dolphins, 2-1, to capture the Dunkin' Donuts Baseball Philippines Series VI championship last Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Sharks, playing under the banner of Harbour Centre, finally ended the title drought that saw them lose two finals encounter and a semifinal the past three years. One final was against the Doplhins thus making this championship especially sweet.

In ending the title drought, the Sharks applied the trick used by the Harbour Centre basketball team in winning seven straight PBL championships – and that is getting the right person for the job.

This player turned out to be pitcher Jon Jon Robles who played a key role in the Sharks’ victory in Games 1 and 3.

Harbour Centre owner Mikee Romero extolled his players who gave him his 11th sports championship counting the seven PBL titles, the SEABA Championship, the 2007 SEA Games gold medal and ASEAN Basketball League championship.

“As always, our never-say-die attitude carried us. It’s nice to have players who refuse to lose,” said Romero.

Team manager Richard Cruz, meantime, expressed his deep gratitude to Romero and Harbour Centre Chief Finance Officer Edwin Galvez for their all-out support and for believing that they are also capable of winning a championship.
