The magnesium story
Many people are now getting more curious about one of the more than forty (40) essential nutrients in our human bodies. I am referring to Magnesium. Many people nowadays are calling magnesium… the beautiful mineral.
Let me share some enlightening information about magnesium:-
• Do you know that magnesium was first discovered to be valuable in the treatment of heart disease in 1935;
• Do you know that one of the major reasons for the heart disease epidemic that has been increasing all around the world is deficiency in magnesium;
• Do you know that after calcium, phosphorus, and potassium, magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in cells;
• Do you know that one-quarter of magnesium is found in muscle tissue and three-fifths in bone;
• Do you know that aside from the calming effect of magnesium in the nervous system, there are many other diseases associated with magnesium deficiency, like heart attacks and other forms of heart disease, asthma, fatigue, diabetes, migraines, and other headaches, osteoporosis, insomnia, many kinds of muscular problems, hypertension, kidney, liver damage, glaucoma, Alzheimer’s disease, sinus, bacterial infection, cancer, psoriasis, and many kinds of behavioral problems;
• Do you know that magnesium is being promoted in the maintenance of heart health and in the treatment of heart disease? In fact, magnesium is often prescribed for those who underwent bypass surgery to help prevent complications;
• Do you know that lack of magnesium in the heart muscle can lead to a spasm or cramp and stops beating;
• Do you know that processed-food–based diets that we are all exposed to because of our busyness is often times very low in magnesium;
• Do you know that hard drinking water (water that contains relatively high levels of dissolved minerals) have high content of magnesium;
• Do you know that magnesium and calcium, the so-called paired minerals have different functions in our body structure. Calcium exists mainly outside cells while magnesium almost cells are formed inside cells. Also, while calcium excites nerves, magnesium calms them down;
• Do you know that increasing calcium in the diet reduces the absorption of magnesium;
• Do you know that the unabsorbed calcium anywhere in the body can provoke other diseases? For example, unabsorbed calcium found in bones and joints can cause arthritis; if found in the heart, it leads to arterial lesions; if found in the lungs, it leads to respiratory problems. This is highlighting the role of magnesium in calcium absorption;
• Do you know that nowadays people are talking about the new form of increasing our magnesium level – the popular TRANSDERMAL MAGNESIUM TREATMENT, which means applying magnesium through the skin (spray-type) as contrasted with taking magnesium orally or by mouth. Magnesium taken orally is not absorbed very well. Also, taking magnesium by mouth sometimes causes diarrhea. Transdermal magnesium treatment is easy to apply. And yet the impact on our health is terrific.
Have a joyful day!
