Solons ‘scandalized’ by salaries of GOCC executives
Lawmakers called on the House of Representatives to look into the very high salaries of executives in government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs), urging its officials to include them in the Salary Standardization Law (SLL).
Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares and Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone, said they were "scandalized" by an audit report revealing that Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Armand Arreza has been receiving a salary of P26.865 million annually.
"That should be okay if the government corporation is making money, but even those not making any money are still giving out very big allowances and salaries," Colmenares said.
The legislator said it is unfair for the employees who receive very much less by working in other government agencies to have big chunks of money going to the service of a very few executives in GOCCs.
“It was really scandalous for us to know that they are receiving very high salaries while other government agencies are having problems looking and collecting revenues. That is unfair to the men and women in the government,” he said.
