A senior opposition congressman Sunday urged Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima to conduct an early house cleaning of the finance department before satisfying his alleged thirst for vengeance against members of the Arroyo family.

In a press statement, Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio Arroyo angrily chided Purisima for feeding media with wrong information and data about the solon’s alleged tax evasion case, saying that the Cabinet official is actually on a “vengeance trip” against him. “If you want to land in the news, catch the bad guys and don’t go on a persecution or a vengeance trip,” Arroyo, brother-in-law of former president and now  Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, stated.

Published reports have indicated that Purisima wants the Truth Commission to include an alleged tax evasion case against the solon in the list of cases that the body will investigate. Arroyo said Purisima has no business dictating what the Truth Commission must investigate, adding that he should busy himself cleaning his own backyard and conducting an investigation into his men’s alleged wrongdoings.
