Mayor Erap urges Manila firms to conserve water

By Erma Edera Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has urged business establishments in the city to conserve water as parts of the country continue to grapple with the water shortage crisis brought about by the onset of El Niño.

And to hotels, they should also limit replacing water in their swimming pools,” Mayor Estrada said. Estrada instructed City Administrator Ericson Alcovendaz to conduct inspections of all water connections of school and government offices in Manila. He said that he already advised the Manila City Hall employees to save water by repairing all water leaks in their houses and other water outlets. Estrada also coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Department to deliver and supply water in areas that would be affected by the water supply interruption. “Hatiran natin ng tubig lalo na ang mga komunidad na maraming sanggol at mga senior citizens dahil kailangan talaga ang tubig,” the Mayor said. Estrada assured that all hospitals in Manila will be given priority in the delivery of water. The water level in La Mesa Dam is now below critical level at 68.93 meters. Several areas in Metro Manila and Rizal have experienced water service interruptions due to operational adjustments made by water service providers Manila Water and Maynilad.
