Illegal lumber seized in Bataan; suspect nabbed

CAMP TOLENTINO, Bataan — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported Monday the confiscation of illegally swan lumber and the arrest of suspected illegal logger in barangay Roosevelt, Dinalupihan town in a renewed campaign by the CIDG against “environmental terrorists.”

Chief Inspector Ruben S. Tampis, CIDG provincial officer here, reported to Sr. Supt. Richard Albano, CIDG Central Luzon chief, that a total of 1,272 board feet of lumber such as narra, teak and mangium were confiscated by joint elements of the CIDG and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) headed by Atty. Ric Lazaro when they swooped down in Roosevelt, called the Bataan  National Park where around more than 700 hectares of forested areas is located.

Major Tampis said that they also arrested Rodrigo Suarez, a suspected illegal logger while the confiscated lumber will be turned over to the PENRO for proper disposition.

The CIDG is not only going after in solving heinous crimes and celebrated unsolved murder cases but also running after illegal loggers and illegal fishers in its bid to help Bataan governor Tet Garcia’s campaign against what they called saboteurs of environment.

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested by the Bataan PNP in their renewed drive against illegal drugs in Bataan.

Sr. Supt. Arnold D. Gunnacao, Bataan police director, reported that Rhyan Dizon of Basa St., Bagumbayan, Balanga Ciy was collared by the Balanga police and the City marshal after he was caught in the act of possessing dried marijuana leaves and seedlings.

In a separate illegal drugs operation in barangay Sabatan, Orion town, Chief Inspector Emerson Dante, Orion chief of police, also reported to Col. Gunnacao the arrest of Randellou Magpoc of barangay Landing, Pilar town who was collared in a hasty drug operation in the area.

Major Dante said that recovered from the suspect was one foil containing marijuana leaves.
