More and more women are getting hooked on gadgets. Women have been buying more gadgets – from iPods to notebooks, to Blackberries and Ipads, we’re not invisible anymore in the world of consumer electronics.

Gadgets — not to mention its review blogs often seem overwhelmingly marketed towards males. And that’s too bad, because the electronics industry is missing a big opportunity.

Although men seem to spend more time on gizmos overall, we occupy a very significant majority of consumers. According to an NPD group survey, nearly 40 percent of spending in consumer electronics comes from women. That was last year, I’m sure numbers have gone up since. Manufacturers are now aware of this which is why gadgets have come out with designs of the “fashion statement” persuasion. There seems to be this notion that women’s gadgets should have femme colors like baby or hot pink or blingy. Companies seem to find it difficult to design, produce and market products to women without resorting to stereotypes. Vista, California-based company ChicBlvd, creates electronics products for women. The company was started by two women.

They carry earphones and iPod cases that are available in colors such as Bubble Gum and Pomegranate Purple and studded with Swarovski crystals. They create pieces with a woman’s needs in mind: a woman on-the-go looking for fashion, function and convenience in their electronics. Here are two that I found interesting that I feel are fancy, pretty, witty and smart girly gadgetry…

Digital Cosmetic Mirror – This let’s one try on makeup –virtually! It’s not a magic mirror, but it works wonders. It allows women to try on make up without having to go through the time consuming step of applying the makeup. Created by cosmetics company Shiseido, the interactive display allows users to check out new products using augmented reality.

Users simply stand in front of the computer’s camera and let it scan your face. The image is then loaded into the computer and it gives you a number of colors to try out. Users then select a color via touchscreen and the computer applies the makeup to the virtual image. If you like what you see, you can print out the photo and pick up your new makeup. .

Date Check iPhone App - Even though dating should be about having fun and meeting new people, it’s also about finding out if this person is potential mate material. I mean who doesn’t wanna make sure her potential hubby was in the slammer for a misdemeanor or worst?

Thanks to this new iPhone and Android app, you might not be able to check if he picks his nose or snores like an avalanche, but you can get the data on just about everything else. Created by information commerce company, Intelius, Date Check does what the company does best, dig up dirt.
It’s an app that lets users pull up all those juicy secrets that you want to know, but might be too shy to ask on the first or second date.

With a flick of the wrist you can find out if a person has a criminal history via the sleeze detector. You can also see if they own real estate, or if they’re living with someone -- say a spouse they might have forgotten to mention.
