Comelec to review fee computation
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is studying a revision in the computation of fees to be paid by the contesting party involved in an electoral protest, since the precincts were clustered in the last May 10 recent automated polls.
Under Resolution 8804, the protestant has to shell out P1,500 for every precinct. In the case of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, he was earlier required to pay a cash deposit of almost P10 million for his electoral protest.
The amount is based on the “established precincts,” not on “clustered precincts” in Manila.
Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said some losing parties have protested the computation, and the poll body is taking note of the complaints.
In last Tuesday’s en banc meeting, “we have decided to issue a new resolution establishing the computation based on the clustered precincts,” Sarmiento said.
